High-speed supercomputer communications in broadband networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
High speed communication across wide area networks is currently of great interest in computer communications industry. It is needed wherever a huge amount of data will be created and made available to remote computer systems. Areas of investigation in computer science are the coupling of supercomputers (metacomputing), high-resolution visualisation of data and distributed access to huge amounts of data. Within the Gigabit Testbed West (GTB-West) a high speed communication link has been installed between the research center Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (FZJ) and the National Research Center for Information (GMD) at Sankt Augustin. Amongst the research fields Metacomputing, Visualization and distributed usage of huge amount of data the installation, management and performance evaluation of the data communication links are main points of interest to the GTBW project. Possible solutions to connect supercomputers for Metacomputing applications based on different communication technologies like HIPPI, Sonet and ATM are discussed and the pros and cons of the final implementation are presented.

The Effects of Broadband Infrastructure on Economic Growth in Developing Countries
In this paper we investigate the effects of broadband infrastructure providing high speed internet, on economic growth in developing countries. We have used two different broadband measures to classify developing countries into two groups for the period 1999-2008. By using logistic diffusion model and IV approach, a nonlinear diffusion model is specified. Differences in ceiling of diffusion cur...

متن کاملRadio environment map-based cognitive Doppler spread compensation algorithms for high-speed rail broadband mobile communications
Recently, there is an increasing yet challenging demand on broadband mobile communications for high-speed trains. In this article, cognitive Doppler spread compensation algorithms are proposed for high-speed rail broadband mobile communications, which make use of the dedicated radio environment map (REM) for railway to compensate the time-varying Doppler spread. The dedicated REM for high-speed...

The growing interest in distributed computing and computer networking in general on the one hand and advances in telecommunication services on the other hand have given rise to considerable R&D efforts in the area of high speed networking. The ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) technology which will be used to realize the future Broadband-ISDN offers the capabilities to integrate high bandwidth m...
متن کاملCAPANINA – Communications from Aerial Platform Networks Delivering Broadband Information for All
An overview of CAPANINA, a project funded by the European Commission’s 6th Framework Programme is presented. The project is developing communications technologies for use with aerial platforms with the aim of delivering communications to users in hard to reach users and those disadvantaged by geography. The paper discusses the three broad areas of the project. Specific aspects covered include: ...
